“I’m inspired by photographers who follow their own vision rather than trying to be popular.”

Name:Barbara Fischer
Hometown:I came from Cologne in Germany to Melbourne in Australia
Style of photography:analog, from everyday settings and scenarios
Type of camera:many. I prefer easy to carry ones like the OlympusXA and OlympusOm2N. I also shoot medium format and hope to dust off my Bronica S2N soon. I wish my Lomo LCA wouldn’t always break down as it’s one of my favourite cameras, I miss using it.
Website:Flickr
What gives you inspiration?
I get inspiration from other photographers as well as from the things I see around me. I get bored quickly and try not to repeat myself too much, new ideas and locations are always interesting to me. I also love paintings and old architecture as well as learning about art history. These things can be very inspiring in an indirect way.
What are your influences?
There are many people on flickr that have influenced me a great deal, some of my flickr contacts inspired me to switch to analog photography which was a big step for me, and I am very glad I did. Digital photos can look sterile to me now. I’m inspired by photographers who follow their own vision rather than trying to be popular. Popularity contests usually leave me bored, I tend to see the same stuff all the time. I love this website on photography and made lots of wonderful discoveries there: www.jmcolberg.com/weblog
Why did you choose these photos?
I picked these photos because they are pictures of ordinary places that somehow look extraordinary to me.
There’s also an element of melancholia which I like, a reminder that everything is fleeting.
What does photography mean to you?
Sometimes photos speak from the soul and to the soul and it’s magical when that happens. It’s like they can express something that words can’t, and I just love when that happens. It takes a lot of dedication to make it happen and it doesn’t always work.
