What gives you inspiration?
I tend to be attracted to emptied-out spaces, usually interiors. I think there’s a kind of poetry, a strange energy in overlooked, common objects and places. I like simple color palettes, colors that suggest certain emotions. Lately I’ve been inspired by the work of Italian artist Giorgio Morandi, and the music of Radiohead.
What are your influences?
I’ve been influenced by a number of great photographers: William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Sylvia Plachy, Alec Soth, Richard Renaldi, Jeff Brouws, Thomas Struth, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Joel Sternfeld, Adam Bartos, the Bechers, to name a few.
Why did you choose these photos?
These images are part of a longer-term, self-initiated project. They were shot in and around Greensboro, North Carolina, the place where I live, and document something about the nature and identity of place.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography allows me to see patterns in the everyday world, to slow time, and to look more deeply.
