What gives you inspiration?
So many varied things; music, a conversation, other artists/styles, a good read, a long drive, a great exhibit, pbs. It really comes from all over the place.
What are your influences?
My education is probably my main influence. I went to art school and was absolutely flooded with a whole universe of artists and art styles. I tried to absorb as much as I could at the time, but 10 years later and Im still sorting through it all. As far as different artists who are influencial, Id have to say Hiroshi Sugimoto, Mark Rothko, Robert Rauschenberg, Ralph Eugene Meatyard are among many.
Why did you choose these photos?
I think these photos are not only representative of what I like to shoot, I think this is the direction Id like to move more towards. In the sense that I think there is a certain thread that connects them (and hopefully all my stuff). I try not to define what that connective tissue is because I think its better figuring it out and uncovering bits and pieces of it as the years move on.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography is cheap therapy, not only for the creator but for the viewer. I know the best artwork Ive seen not only inspires me to create but challenges me to look deeper into who I am.
