Interview Christian Flatscher

Every day I more & more realize that photography is the only thing I want to do.

Name: Christian Flatscher
Hometown: I’m currently studying & living in Innsbruck / Austria, but I grew up in St.Anton am Arlberg, a small but tourist-flooded ski resort in the Tyrolean alps.
Style of photography: Architectural, structural, simple, considered, precise
Type of camera(s):Canon EOS 450D
Website: www.christianflatscher.com, Flickr

What gives you inspiration?

Curious situations, odd structures, urban environments, the rigidity of concrete & steel, shapes, clean lines, symmetry, architecture in general, green stuff, etc. Things & situations that don’t appear as a beauty at first sight. Things we use to encounter every day without giving them special attention.

What are your influences?

When I started to study architecture back in 2004 I wasn’t really into photography. I was casually shooting with a tiny digital camera. It was playful, unexperienced and there wasn’t really a purpose in my way of taking pictures. Dealing with architecture changed that way of looking at things and hence shooting completely. It became definitely the biggest influence on my work. Besides, I really admire the work of Bas Princen, Julius Shulman, Hilla & Bernd Becher, Axel Hütte, Friederike von Rauch, Andreas Gursky, Iwan Baan and many amazing photographers on Flickr.

Why did you choose these photos?

I took these photos on vacation in California & Nevada last month. The situations are still fresh in my mind and I think the pictures represent my personal work quite well.

What does photography mean to you?

Every day I more & more realize that photography is the only thing I want to do.
