What gives you inspiration?

What generally inspires me is my environment, the neighborhoods and so forth. The experience of being there, trying to gain some connection by extracting a small piece.

What are your influences?

Aside from all the great photographers’ work out there, influence comes from most all mediums in the arts. My other love, aside from photography, is film and the great auteurs past and present. Although my work here more or less falls under the mode of Formalism, my influences can range all over the place. Whether it be Surrealist or Post-Modern, the most important thing is that it has the ability to resonate something within me.

Why did you choose these photos?

I chose these images because they illustrate some of the subject matter I’m drawn to.

What does photography mean to you?

It’s about elevating the ordinary, taking your cue from the subject and letting the qualities speak for themselves.
