Interview Misho Antadze

Photography is my way of saying “I was there, I saw it and now it’s here to stay”.

Name: Misho Antadze
Hometown: Tbilisi, Georgia
Style of photography: I don’t really have a style. If there is a name for photographing moments I like and want them to stay, there would be a name for my style, but I don’t think there is.
Type of camera(s): I have many analog cameras, but most of them are broken. These photos were taken with Pentax ME (broken now) and a Lubitel (not broken, yet). That’s why I don’t have many 35mm work lately.

What gives you inspiration?

Obviously, it is very hard to answer this question. But being very young and growing up in Eastern Europe (Georgia, Post-USSR) is probably one of them; People and things around here are very “contrasty”, either very sweet or very gloomy, very kind or inhumane, very soft or very harsh… Observing all of this, I gradually developed a certain feeling I cannot describe and try to capture the counterintuitive harmony and balance of this two worlds colliding. Of course I have influences, such as emotions, silly dreams and other things that happen in life, but they influence me in my everyday life too, so saying that they are only a influence for photography would not be true.

What are your influences?

Family. Friends. Warm things. Flickr Contacts. But my very first influence was David Meskhi, a photographer that later became a good friend of mine. I think he was the second professional photographer I met and his advice was and is very valuable to me. Another good friend of mine,(the first photographer I met) Alexander Bagrationi also helps me out a lot today.

Why did you choose these photos?

Most of my friends and family seem to like them, that’s why.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography is my way of saying “I was there, I saw it and now it’s here to stay”.
