What gives you inspiration?

I receive inspiration from my personal experience and my memories. And I also receive inspiration from traces of people in landscapes.

What are your influences?

I have been influenced by great photographs, movies and art history. For example, the romanticism picture and the traditional Japanese landscape picture called the “Sansuiga”. Tarkovski’s movies gave me a lot of awareness. And of course, I am influenced by Japanese daily life around me.

Why did you choose these photos?

These images are from a serie called “Nowhere”. This serie of work started with a story of the loss of a forest nearby my house where I used to live in my childhood days. I was able to feel the connection with a deep part in the world there when the forest was there. However, the forest was destroyed and only the process of the loss kept remaining.

I am looking for scenery that keeps losing something like this story at the present day. And, I try to regain the connection with the world again there.

What does photography mean to you?

I can have innocence and integrity through a photograph. The photograph gives me an intimate relation with the world.
