What gives you inspiration?
We’re having a difficult time with the word “inspiration”, it’s such an overused word, we might be affected by other people or things we encounter but it does not mean that this influence will actually lead to anything. Everything has the potential of being a starting point for the emergence of something new as long as it captures our interest. In our work we try to interrogate objects and situations to see what they may become rather than observing what they already are.
What are your influences?
We are influenced by Pop Art, Surrealism, Objet Trouve, advertising, material culture, the system and order of things and alcohol.
Why did you choose these photos?
We chose these images because they represent different aspects and themes of our work both idea wise and aesthetically. They range from referencing advertising pack shots to still life photography to having narratives. A common feature in these four images is trying to provoke a double take and create an element of the unexpected.
What does photography mean to you?
Our view on photography is not the two dimensional copy or representation of the “thing”, but the copy of the perception and our interpretation of the thing.
